When it comes to wrangling a refund for a delayed flight or an unjust bill, many consumers would rather let the occasional error slide than wade through pages of fine print to figure out their entitlement. So services that promise to recoup your money may sound tempting, especially when there is no initial fee and all you have to lose is a cut of your refund -- which you may not have asked for in the first place.

A sampling of these start-ups includes Fixed, an app that contests parking tickets; 71lbs, which collects refunds for late package deliveries; and AirHelp, which claims compensation for delayed or canceled flights to or from Europe.
These are recent iterations of an old idea, says Susan Grant, of the Consumer Federation of America. There nothing inherently wrong with these sorts of businesses -- as long as they don charge upfront (a sign of a scam). But disgruntled consumers may do better on their own.

What more, the financial sector is expected to be the biggest drag on revenue growth for the quarter. With the S&P 500 expected to post 0.3% revenue growth for the fourth quarter, revenue for the financial sector is expected to decline by 10.2%, according to Butters. Much of that has to do with Prudential Financial Inc. (PRU) , which had a big one-time revenue gain due to pension risk-transfer transactions in the year-ago quarter. But even without the insurer, revenue for the sector is still expected to decline by 0.3%, according to Butters.

Finally, to round out the theme of earnings-based pops, insurance and investment management firm Prudential (NYSE: PRU ) popped 7% after reporting its first-quarter results. Aside from a slew of one-time charges related to foreign currency translations and investment losses, Prudential reported an adjusted EPS profit of $2.28, as revenue increased 13%, to $11.83 billion. The Street expected only a $1.87 per-share profit, but had been looking for $12.4 billion in revenue. Prudential noted that all of its operating segments demonstrated growth during the quarter, and it ended with $1.06 trillion in assets under management. The charges were certainly an unwelcome surprise, but Prudential, at seven times forward earnings, still looks incredibly cheap.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By BDC Buzz]
I believe investors should look past the current low dividend yields and relatively higher multiples of NAV per share for BDCs such as FDUS, MAIN, and TCAP, but should consider the total return for these companies. The table below compares FDUS and MAIN to both ACAS which does not pay dividends and Horizon Technology Finance (HRZN) that pays a higher than average dividend but after taking into account dividend growth, special dividends, and NAV per share growth (using last twelve months actual for projection purposes) it is clear that the expected investor return is based on more than the current dividend yield.
