Top 5 Semiconductor Stocks To Watch Right Now

Despite some pull back in the market recently, chip stock Advanced Micro Devices, Inc (NYSE: AMD) has largely held up as have Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC) and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA). I shouldmention that we recently hadan open position in Advanced Micro Devices inour SmallCap Network Elite Opportunity (SCN EO) portfolio from last summer up untillate January when we locked in a small loss.We decided toget outin part because it a trading portfolio and also becauseAMD shares sankoncemoreafterthe companyhad issued anearnings reporta repeat of what happened after threeprevious earnings reports. Nevertheless and if you are an investor with a long term time horizon, you might want to consider the following news:

World Fastest Graphics Card Launched. On Tuesday, Advanced Micro Devices announced thelaunch of the world's fastest and most powerful graphics card - theAMD RadeonR9 295X2. Forbes already has a detailed review, which concluded by saying:

What I know for certain is that AMD Radeon 295X2 is a compelling product, and that it justifies its asking price in performance, thermals, and aesthetics. And I hope it signals a bold new direction for AMD in terms of design language and branding. Quite simply, if youe not married to Nvidia robust ecosystem and want a 4K-capable card that stays cool and quiet, you can go wrong with the Radeon R9 295X2.

In fact, today the company announced that it will be launching a new universal life product for the Canadian market called Manulife UL by May 26 of this year. The new product will offer cost-effective insurance protection, as well as the opportunity for tax-advantaged investing, catering to customer's demands for a more simplified insurance solution, which should help boost sales to some extent. Although the firm's balance sheet is highly leveraged, exposing it to possible damages in the case of higher-than-expected policy liabilities, Manulife's capital position has improved substantially over the past year. With a ratio of regulatory capital to ! capital required at 248%, the firm possesses excessive capital levels, well above competitors like Prudential Public Limited Company (ADR) (PUK), China Life Insurance Company Ltd. Look Out, Apple: Here Comes BlackBerry

BlackBerry has rolled out its Z10 smartphone with the new BB10 operating system. In this video, Andrew Tonner reviews this product launch and the future launch of the Q10 smartphone. The Z10 has a touchscreen that may not appeal to BlackBerry loyalists, so the future launch of the Q10 with a keyboard may be a more critical launch, since it should appeal to these customers. The Q10 will reportedly sell for around $200 with a three-year contract.

Andrew says this series of product launches may help BlackBerry in the short run, but many analysts are bearish on the company's long-term prospects. Check out the video for more details.

Top Building Product Companies To Buy For 2014

It's been a volatile year for the roofing industry, and over the last three months, investors have seen more downside. Roofing materials distributor Beacon Roofing Supply (NASDAQ: BECN  ) is down 11.5% in the last three months, and building products manufacturer Owens Corning (NYSE: OC  ) fell 5.5% in the same period -- all in a year when many commentators thought this sector would outperform.

It's complicated
A resurgent housing market should lead to a marginal increase in new residential roofing demand, while the underlying reroofing demand should provide its usual support. Indeed, these conditions looked like they were in place for 2013, and analysts built a fair amount of optimism into their expectations. So what went wrong?

First, the US has had some unusual weather patterns in recent years. In previous years, hurricane Irene (and to a lesser extent Sandy) helped to generate reroofing demand, while this year's weather has been far more clement. Worse yet, according to Owens Corning, those storms pulled forward reroofing work that homeowners might otherwise have planned to do this year. And this spring's bout of wet weather further hurt roofing activity, because contractors simply couldn't work.

One stock that's starting to enter breakout territory here is Veeva Systems (VEEV), which is a provider of industry-specific cloud-based software solutions for the life sciences industry. This stock is off to a decent start since its IPO in October, with shares up 9%.

If you take a look at the chart for Veeva Systems, you'll notice that this stock found some buying interest over the last few weeks, when shares traded down near $35 and $36 a share. Shares of VEEV have now started to spike sharply higher off its recent low of $36.60 a share, and that move is quickly pushing shares of VEEV into breakout territory above some near-term overhead resistance at $40.62 a share.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in VEEV if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $40.62 a share to Friday's intraday high of $41.05 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 1.27 million shares. If that breakout hits soon, then VEEV will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $44.62 to its all-time high at $49 a share. Any high-volume move above those levels will then give VEEV a chance to trend well north of $50 a share.

Traders can look to buy VEEV off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below Friday's low of $38.64 a share, or near $36.60 a share. One can also buy VEEV off strength once it takes out those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

Another stock that's starting to move within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade is China Recycling Energy (CREG), which engages in the recycling energy business, providing energy savings and recycling products and services. This stock is off to a strong start in 2013, with shares up a whopping 166%.

If you take a look at the chart for China Recycling Energy, you'll notice that this stock recently formed a double bottom chart pattern at $1.67 to $1.66 a share. Following that bottom, shares of CREG have started to uptrend strong and move back above its 50-day moving average. That uptrend has now pushed shares of CREG within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade.

Market players should now look for long-biased trades in CREG if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $2.80 to $2.85 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 95,671 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then CREG will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $3.50 to $4 a share.

Traders can look to buy CREG off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below its 50-day moving average of $2.32 a share, or near more support at $2 a share. One can also buy CREG off strength once it clears those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

For the past several years, Berkshire has contrasted its own cost-free float provided by profitable underwriting against the industry's (unimpressive) tendency to lose money on underwriting while generating net returns from investment income. So far, so good. Less edifying, though, is the repeated contrast of Berkshire's track record of profitability to State Farm's…even though, as a mutual company, State Farm's profitability goals are inherently different from for-profit insurers like Berkshire. It's true that through year-end 2013, Berkshire's underwriters have "now operated at an underwriting profit for eleven consecutive years," but so have ACE (ACE), American Financial (AFG),  AmTrust Financial (AFSI), Arch Capital (ACGL), Chubb (CB), HCC (HCC), Progressive (PGR), RLI (RLI), and W.R. Berkley (WRB), any or all of whom provide a more meaningful comparison than contrasting Berkshire's results to a company that's not out to produce a profit in t he first place.

Best Energy Stocks To Buy Right Now

Pick a coal stock–any coal stock–and it’s likely that those shares have been pounded this year. That’s made some analysts consider whether they’re cheap enough to buy. UBS thinks its time to consider bankruptcy, even if its not a near-term concern.

Bloomberg

How bad have the losses been this year? Peabody Energy (BTU) is down 9.5% so far in 2014, while Arch Coal (ACI) is off 16%. Alpha Natural Resources (ANR) has plunged 48% and Walter Energy (WLT) had plummeted 66%.

UBS analyst Kuni Chen explains why now’s a good time to start thinking about bankruptcy in the coal sector:

Since 2012, we have seen Patriot Coal and James River file for bankruptcy protection. There continues to be signs of mounting financial distress in the coal sector with some tranches of Walter paper trading at 60 cents on the dollar. Alpha and Arch paper is trading a bit better in the 70-80 range for unsecured debt. With yields approaching the mid-teens percentages for Arch Coal/Alpha Natural Resources paper, the bonds are edging closer to distressed levels. Meantime, the equities continue to be weak with Walter Energy down almost 70% in the last 12 months and Alpha Natural Resources down 40% vs. the S&P 500 +14%. While there does not appear to be any imminent bankruptcy risk, we want to discuss the potential event path to a next potential liquidity crisis looking ahead 2-3 years. Within our coverage universe, the companies with the most financial leverage include Alpha Natural, Arch Coal, and Walter Energy.

We expect Caledonia to generate close to $600M in EBITDA. While RIGs mid-water OPEX has averaged about $125k/d we expect it to be lower at Caledonia. 2015 Consensus EBITDA for RIG is ~$3B which means 20% of RIGs 2015 EBITDA comes from the rigs that will become Caledonia. The problem (in a bear market) is that companies with lower end rigs trade at a discount just ask Awilco (AWLCF), Fred Olsen Energy, and Paragon Offshore (PGN) which trade at an average multiple of 3.3x on 2015 EBITDA versus RIG which trades at 6.3x.

Top Industrial Disributor Companies To Buy Right Now

A day before its Q1 earnings report, Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK  ) announced today that it will suspend any plans to apply for new nuclear units on its North Carolina Harris site.

The construction and operating applications were originally submitted by Progress Energy in 2008, and fell under Duke's domain after a July 2012 merger between the two utilities.

Although Duke Energy President Dhiaa Jamil noted in a statement that the site is "well suited for new nuclear generation and has not been eliminated from our long-term consideration," slower power growth has put any new construction plans on the back burner. According to Jamil, "Our most recent forecast indicates two additional nuclear units at Harris will not be needed in the next 15 years."

Instead, the company will continue to focus on its $9 billion fleet modernization efforts, which brought three power plants (two natural gas combined-cycle and one "clean coal") online in 2012, and should add another combined-cycle facility later this year.

Top Logistics Companies For 2015: National Health Investors Inc. (NHI)

National Health Investors Inc.(NHI) signed an agreement to acquire 25 independent-living facilities from Holiday Retirement Corp. affiliates for $491 million. The health-care focused real-estate investment trust also unveiled plans to offer 4.5 million shares of its stock to help fund the pending deal.

  • [By Jonas Elmerraji]

After performing pretty poorly in the last year, $2 billion healthcare property owner National Health Investors (NHI) has gone from laggard to leader in 2014. Since the start of the year, NHI has moved more than 11% higher, stomping the S&P 500's performance by comparison. And now, NHI looks well positioned for another leg up...

NHI is forming a "rounding bottom" pattern, a basic classic setup that looks exactly like it sounds: it's identified by a curved support level below shares and a horizontal resistance level to the top side. That rounded support line indicates a gradual shift in control from sellers to buyers -- and resistance at $63 is the price level to watch from here.

Why all the significance at $63? It all comes down to buyers and sellers. Price patterns are a good quick way to identify what's going on in the price action, but they're not the reason a stock is tradable. Instead, the "why" comes down to basic supply and demand for NHI's stock.

The $63 resistance level is a price where there has been an excess of supply of shares; in other words, it's a spot where sellers have previously been more eager to step in and take gains than buyers have been to buy. That's what makes a breakout above $63 so significant -- the move means that buyers are finally strong enough to absorb all of the excess supply above that price level.

Top Industrial Disributor Companies To Buy Right Now: Atlantic Power Corp (AT)

Atlantic Power Corporation (Atlantic Power) owns and operates a fleet of power generation and infrastructure assets in the United States and Canada. The Company power generation projects sell electricity to utilities and industrial customers under long-term power purchase agreements. During the year ended December 31, 2011, its power generation projects in operation had an aggregate gross electric generation capacity of approximately 3,397 megawatts in which its ownership interest was approximately 2,140 megawatts. The Company operates in five segments: Northeast, Southeast, Northwest, Southwest and Un-allocated Corporate. As of December 31, 2011, its portfolio consisted of interests in 31 operational power generation projects across 11 states in the United States and two provinces in Canada, and a 53 megawatts biomass project under construction in Georgia and a 500-kilovolt 84-mile electric transmission line. On December 31, 2012, the Company acquired Ridgeline Energy Holdings, Inc. Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Markus Aarnio]

Emera's competitors include Northland Power (NPIFF.PK), Fortis (FRTSF.PK), and Atlantic Power (AT). Northland Power has seen insider buying in August and has a dividend yield of 7.6%. Fortis has seen both insider buying and insider selling in August. Fortis has a dividend yield of 4.1%. Atlantic Power saw insider buying last time in April. Atlantic Power has a dividend yield of 9.4%.

  • [By Justin Loiseau]

But dividends can be a major drain, as evidenced by Exelon's (NYSE: EXC  ) and Atlantic Power's (NYSE: AT  ) recent dividend haircuts. Exelon cut its dividend 40%, and Mr. Market has heavily rewarded its decision with a soaring stock price. Atlantic's decision may have been too little, too late, as the utility's 66% dividend division has been accompanied by a steep decline in share prices.

  • [By Selena Maranjian]

A good dividend investor needs to remember that dividend amounts are not set in stone. Companies do try hard to not reduce or eliminate them, but that happens sometimes. Recently, for example, both Atlantic Power (NYSE: AT  ) and Exelon (NYSE: EXC  ) reduced their dividends -- by 65% and 40%, respectively. Atlantic had been yielding 10%, and Exelon 6.8%. Atlantic still sports a hefty yield, but that's because its stock has fallen some 62% over the past three months amid poor results and worries over lawsuits. Exelon, a nuclear-power specialist, is viewed more favorably, and has been investing in renewable energy, as well. Still, some think it could be a while before its also-depressed stock turns around.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By John Maxfield]

The latter was on display last week when Toll Brothers (NYSE: TOL  ) reported earnings for its fiscal second quarter ended April 30. Aside from the fact that the nation's largest luxury homebuilder notched higher revenue and net income, the most tangible evidence of progress was in the number of units sold or put under contract. Compared with last year, the company saw its net signed-contract count increase by 36%. And over the same time period, the price of each contract advanced from $631,000 to $678,000.

  • [By Jake L'Ecuyer]

    Top Headline
Toll Brothers (NYSE: TOL) reported a better-than-expected fourth-quarter profit. Toll Brothers' quarterly profit declined to $94.9 million, or $0.54 per share, versus a year-ago profit of $411.4 million, or $2.35 per share.

  • [By Sinisa Persich]

Toll Brothers Inc. (TOL) has been consolidating its big run from 32.50 through resistance at 35.00 and up to near 37.00 in mid-December, flagging for the last eight weeks, and making higher lows. A move above 37.19 would break the stock out of its current flag formation.

Stocks as a whole haven't gotten the new year off on the best foot, but that's not to say every equity out there is in trouble.
