March Chicago Wheat closed Thursday's weak trading session 12 cents at 567 1/2 and March Kansas City Wheat was down 12 cents at 608.
U.S. Wheat demand as gauged by the weekly export sales data was weak at 151,000 tonnes, less than half of what the Street was expecting. Market talk is now focused on the USDA grain report next week and World wheat supplies. The Street is estimating that world wheat ending stocks will be 194.35 million tonnes, down from 194.90 million last month.

Opportunities on the horizon
That was about it for contracts of significant size awarded last week. Sure, there were other awards: $13 million for Lockheed to repair some helicopters here, $8 million for Exelis (NYSE: XLS ) to deliver some spare parts there. But really, the more interesting news last week concerned future contract wins -- and because those aren't "news" yet, they've received much less attention in the media and offer more potential for profit for investors. - [By Rich Smith]
Maybe there's something to this whole "sequestration" phenomenon after all -- because for all intents and purposes -- and certainly in comparison with recent trends -- Department of Defense spending has come to a screeching halt in recent days. It seems the Italians aren't the only military that likes Exelis' (NYSE: XLS ) night vision gear.
Last month, Exelis announced that it had been contracted by an Italian defense contractor to supply "i-Aware" Tactical Mobility Night Vision Goggles for use by the Italian Army. On Tuesday, the company announced it had won a similar contract with the U.S. Navy.

As of September 30, 2012, the Company installed over 90,000 devices and deployed several central systems which in total process approximately 10 billion fare-related transactions per year for approximately seven billion transit passengers.

On Tuesday, Northrop announced that it has been awarded a Navy R&D contract to help "mature" solid state laser technology for use in shipboard defense. If testing bears fruit, the Navy ultimately hopes to build a prototype laser weapon system to test its usefulness aboard warships. The value of Tuesday's contract award was not disclosed.
