March Chicago Wheat closed Thursday's weak trading session 12 cents at 567 1/2 and March Kansas City Wheat was down 12 cents at 608.

U.S. Wheat demand as gauged by the weekly export sales data was weak at 151,000 tonnes, less than half of what the Street was expecting. Market talk is now focused on the USDA grain report next week and World wheat supplies. The Street is estimating that world wheat ending stocks will be 194.35 million tonnes, down from 194.90 million last month.

    Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC  ) is helping the U.S. Navy develop its next-generation laser gun.

    On Tuesday, Northrop announced that it has been awarded a Navy R&D contract to help "mature" solid state laser technology for use in shipboard defense. If testing bears fruit, the Navy ultimately hopes to build a prototype laser weapon system to test its usefulness aboard warships. The value of Tuesday's contract award was not disclosed.
